Radio Flora TM More music, more variety
“Tears in Heaven” is a song from the soundtrack of the 1991 film Rush. The song was written by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings.
Eric Clapton wrote this song after a rather long absence from songwriting and performing. During this time he mourned his 4-year-old son, Conor, who tragically died after accidentally falling from a 53rd-floor apartment on March 20, 1991.
The death of his son had a deep impact on Eric Clapton. For several months the grieving father concentrated on coming to terms with his loss rather than on performing. When he returned to the stage, his music had changed, becoming softer, more powerful, and more reflective.
The unplugged version of the song, performed in 1992 at MTV Unplugged, won 3 Grammys in 1993: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance Male. The song was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll in 2004.
In the promotional video for “Tears in Heaven,” Eric Clapton is seen performing on the rehearsal set for the 1991 George Harrison Japan tour at Bray Studios.
Eric performed the song for the first time live on 16 January 1992 during an episode of MTV Unplugged.
Clapton stopped playing “Tears in Heaven” in 2004 because he didn’t feel the loss anymore, which is so much a part of the song. He stated, that he didn’t have feelings of the loss anymore and didn’t want them to come back.
But he eventually started playing this song for his 50th anniversary world tour in 2013.
Această melodie a luat 3 premii Grammy pentru Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year, și Record of the Year.
Versuri:
Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
‘Cause I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven
Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?
I’ll find my way through night and day
‘Cause I know I just can’t stay
Here in heaven
Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please
Begging please
Beyond the door, there’s peace, I’m sure
And I know there’ll be no more
Tears in heaven
Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same if I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
Because I know I don’t belong
Here in heaven
