“The House That Built Me” is a song written by Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin, and recorded by American country music artist Miranda Lambert. Blake Shelton was originally set to record the song, but when Lambert heard it, she emotionally reacted to the lyrics, and immediately wanted to record it for herself. It was released in March 2010 as the third single from her third studio album, Revolution. It is the fastest-rising single of her career, reaching the Top 20 in its eighth week.

The music video, which was directed by Trey Fanjoy, premiered on CMT on April 8, 2010. In the video, Lambert’s tour bus pulls up to her childhood home, and she walks up to the front door to ask if she could come in. Inside the house, she wanders through the various rooms, while documentary flashbacks of her family and herself as a child in a house that looks nearly identical to the one in the video, are mixed in. Throughout the video, Lambert is shown performing with her acoustic guitar, seated on the floor in one of the bedrooms. Some of the footage used for the flashbacks consists of Lambert’s own home videos. The video was filmed at a house just outside Nashville

Lambert told The Boot that the concept of the video was clear: “This was one of those videos that needed to be really obvious … [The director] found a house that looked a lot like the house I grew up in. There’s no drama in the video. It just is what it is. It represents the song in such a great way.”

Ideea inițială pentru nostalgica melodie „The House That Built Me” i-a venit compozitorului Allen Shamblin în 2002, în timp ce se afla la Sundance, Utah, pentru o întalnire a compozitorilor. Apoi i-a povestit de idee colaboratorului său Tom Douglas  într-o dimineață, în timp ce erau la micul dejun.

El a spus:„ M-am gândit la modul în care casele păstrează amintiri. Dacă am scrie o melodie, nu despre casele pe care le construim, ci despre casa care m-a construit? ” Douglas povestește:„Imediat când Allen a spus asta, știu că se gândea la detaliile din casa lui din Huffman, Texas. Am făcut o călătorie înapoi la 3018 Oregon Drive în Atlanta. Sunt detaliile și amintirile noastre, dar îl transportă pe ascultător înapoi în casa copilăriei. ”

Acum, o baladă îndrăgită și plină de poveste despre rădăcinile găsite în casa copilăriei cuiva, piesa a avut o lungă călătorie înainte ca Miranda Lambert să o lanseze în Martie 2010. Cei doi bărbați au scris inițial o versiune de 10 minute plină de detalii personale și după ce au dat-o la editorul lor, a stat într-un sertar aproape șapte ani. În 2009, Douglas l-a sunat pe Shamblin și a sugerat să revizuiască melodia.

Piesa a fost prezentată pentru prima dată lui Blake Shelton împreună cu alte câteva piese. În timp ce Shelton asculta un CD demo în timp ce conducea în Oklahoma, prietena lui, Miranda Lambert era lângă el pe scaunul pasagerului și a început să plângă când a auzit piesa. Mulțumită îndemnurilor lui Shelton, Lambert a decis să înregistreze „The House That Built Me”. Versiunea uimitoare a lui Lambert a devenit primul ei  hit de locul 1, câștigând multiple premii CMA și ACM Awards, precum și un Grammy pentru cea mai bună performanță vocală feminină de country.
