Suzi Quatro – Can The Can

“Can the Can” is the second solo single by Suzi Quatro, and was released after she moved from the United States to Britain. In the United States, she had already released two singles with the all-female band The Pleasure Seekers.

This was Suzi Quatro’s first hit; it reached #1 on the UK, Japanese, European and Australian charts. Quatro is an American who joined Mickie Most’s RAK label roster, becoming part of the glam rock revolution. Most produced her first single, “Rolling Stone,” but it went nowhere, so he asked songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman to write an produce her next single. The result was “Can The Can.”

When asked what “Can The Can” means, Nicky Chinn replied: “It means something that is pretty impossible, you can’t get one can inside another if they are the same size, so we’re saying you can’t put your man in the can if he is out there and not willing to commit. The phrase sounded good and we didn’t mind if the public didn’t get the meaning of it.

Suzi Quatro, este născută la 3 Iunie 1950 în Detroit, Michigan. A luat de mică lecții de pian și percuție, și a învățat singură să cânte la bass și chitară. În 1964 tatăl ei îi face cadou o chitară Fender Precision model din 1957.

A cântat la percuție în trio-ul de jazz al tatălui ei, Art Quatro. În 1964 sora ei mai mare Patti a format o formație de fete Pleasure Seekers, împreună cu două prietene și cealaltă soră a lor, Arlene. Suzi s-a alăturat și ea trupei, la bass și vocal.

Din 1971 Suzi Quatro s-a mutat în Anglia unde a semnat un contract cu Elektra Records. Primul ei single s-a numit “Rolling Stone”. După acest single, producătorul ei Mickey Most, a prezentat-o compozitorilor Nicky Chinn și Mike Chapman, care au început s-a compună muzică pentru ea, care să se potrivească stilului ei.
