Lewie Steinberg, American musician best known as the original bass guitar player for the soul music group Booker T & the M.G.’s. Steinberg received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. He died on 21 July 2016 aged 82.

Jazz singer Mel Tormé, aka The Velvet Fog, is born in Chicago, Illinois. He would begin his professonal music career at age 4, singing “You’re Driving Me Crazy” with the Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawk Orchestra. He died on June 5, 1999.
