Woodstock 15-18 August 1969

Pe 15 August, 1969, tinerii (americani) s-au întâlnit pentru a celebra pacea, dragostea și rock ‘n’ roll, în nordul statului New York. Festivalul a fost comercializat ca “Trei Zile de Pace și Muzică.” Evenimentul a fost organizat pentru a strânge suficiente fonduri pentru a construi un studio de înregistrări.

600 de hectare agricole au fost locul evenimentului,  pentru care organizatorii aveau pregătite 150.000 de bilete, dar când au văzut masele de oameni care veneau la festival, au lăsat intrarea liberă. După unele estimări au fost aproximativ 500.000 de participanți.

Așa cum s-au auto-caraterizat, hippies s-au bucurat de un week-end de muzică cu Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Santana, Joan Baez și Jimi Hendrix. Revista Rolling Stone a numit ceea ce este acum numit simplu Woodstock, ca fiind unul din cele “50 de Momente Care au Schimbat Istoria Rock and Roll-ului”.

Deși este cunoscut ca “Woodstock Festival”,  locația a fost la fermă lui Max Yasgur, din localitatea Bethel. Cu toată că au fost 500.000 de persone la festival, nu a fost raportat nici un incident.
