Barbra Streisand – You’re The Top

“You’re the Top” is a Cole Porter song from the 1934 musical Anything Goes.

According to Robert Kimball in The Complete Lyrics of Cole Porter, the result was that “Porter and the newspapers were inundated with imitations and parodies”. P.G. Wodehouse wrote some of the lyrics for the English production.

Actually, list song is a bit of an understatement; the song mentions Johann Strauss, William Shakespeare, Mahatma Gandhi, Napoleon, Mae West and Greta Garbo, to name but six in no particular order, and that’s just some of the people.

Probably the most obscure allusion occurs in the last verse – which is not always sung; a Drumstick lipstick was manufactured by the French cosmetics firm Charbert.

You’re The Top / You’re the silk and satin,” Streisand sings in the newly written and wry lyrics by Jay Landers & Charlie Midnight.

Barbra Streisand s-a născut în Brooklyn, New York City la 24 Aprilie 1942.
A înregistrat primul album în 1963, și a avut un mic rol de secretara pe Broadway, în piesa I Can Get It For You Wholesale pentru care a fost noiminalizată la Tony Awards. Datorită talentului ei, recunoscut imediat, următorul album “Barbra Streisand Album” a ajuns în Top 10. Ea a cîștigat trei Grammy Awards pentru Best Album, Best Female Vocal Performance, și Record of the Year pentru “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

În decadele următoare a obținut alte 8 premii “Grammy”, a avut 10 allbume pe primele locuri în top, și 5 singles care au ajuns pe locul 1. de asemenea a jucat în filme, The Way We Were, Hello, Dolly!,  Funny Girl, propulsând-o și ca actriță. Pentru rolul din Funny Girl a luat Osacr-ul de “Best Actress.” Al doilea Oscar a fost pentru melodia “Evergreen” din coloana sonoră a filmului “A Star Is Born” (1976).
O altă performanță a fost obținerea unui Golden Globe în 1983 pentru Best Director pentru Yentl.

În viața privată, s-a căsătorit de două ori, cu Elliot Gould (cu care are pe singurul ei copil, Jason Gould) și James Brolin.
