The Beatles – Please Please Me

“Please Please Me” – Single by the Beatles, released January 11, 1963. Recorded November 26, 1962.

“Please Please Me” was their second single in the United Kingdom, and their first in the United States. It is also the title track of their first LP, which was recorded to capitalise on the success of the single. It is a John Lennon composition (credited to Lennon–McCartney), although its ultimate form was significantly influenced by producer George Martin.

On this song, John Lennon asks a girl to please please him, just like he does for her. Many assumed he was referring to oral sex, but of course The Beatles denied this, since they had a very clean image to maintain at the time. Lennon said of the song: “I was always intrigued by the double use of the word ‘please.'”

John Lennon, a big Roy Orbison fan, wrote this in the style of Orbison’s overly dramatic singing, and on September 11, 1962, they recorded the song that way. Beatles producer George Martin suggested it would sound better sped up, with more pop appeal, so on November 26, they went back in the studio and cut the version that was released.

The group’s name was misspelled “Beattles” on the record label on the first American release of the single.

Primul album Beatles, lansat la 22 Martie 1963 a fost “Please, Please Me”. Albumul conține primele două single-uri ‘Love Me Do’, ‘PS I Love You’, ‘Please Please Me’, și ‘Ask Me Why’ – plus alte 10 melodii noi înregistrate la 11 Februarie 1963. Costul înregistrării a fost de £400 și a durat aproape 10 ore. Versiunea de pe album, îl are pe Andy White la tobe.

Videoclipul este din turneul american, și a fost înregistrat la The Washington Coliseum, pe data de 11 Februarie 1964. La acest concert au fost 8,092 de spectatori.
