Tracy Chapman – Give Me One Reason

“Give Me One Reason” – Single by Tracy Chapman from the album New Beginning, with B-side “The Rape of the World”. Released on November 19, 1995

The song is Chapman’s biggest US hit, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100. It is also her biggest hit in Australia, where it reached number three as well, and it topped the charts of Canada and Iceland. Elsewhere, the song reached number 16 in New Zealand, but it underperformed in the United Kingdom, peaking at number 95 in March 1997.

Chapman started playing this song live in 1988, seven years before she released it. In 1989, she performed it on Saturday Night Live when she was the musical guest. At this point, it was titled “Gimmie One Reason.”

The music video was directed by Julie Dash and finds Chapman performing the song at an upscale honky-tonk, if there is such a thing. It did very well on VH1.

Chapman earned the Grammy Award for Best Rock Song for the track, and it was also nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards of 1997.

A fost compus de Tracy Chapman în anii ’80, înregistrat în 1995 și lansat în 1996. Tracy Chapman, este o cântăreață de “folk revival”, am putea spune, întreaga ei carieră este bazată pe muzică folk-blues rock în stilul anilor ’60.

New Beginning, i-a adus un disc de platină, ajungând până pe locul 4 în topul de albume de la  Billboard.

Grammy au categorizat melodia drept rock, ceea ce este departe de adevăr, a obținut premiul pentru Best Rock Song.
